Since coming to Charlotte, North Carolina, I have learned through observation that transportation is a major factor in its economic growth. People transport from work, school, etc., either by bus, train, bike, skateboard or moped.

I have noticed while riding the bus that it often gets overcrowded. This, at times, can be very frustrating, especially if you have been working all day and can’t sit down because there are no seats available. Occasionally, there might be some seats available, but there is someone who doesn’t want anyone sitting next to them. This can cause more tension due to the fact that the bus is already overcrowded. The other day, I witnessed an incident on an overcrowded bus. One particular person accidentally stepped on someone’s shoes, and they were about to fight because of it.

I also noticed that, oftentimes, the bus drivers drive as if there are no passengers on board. The bus drivers can be reckless. What I mean is that they sometimes drive excessively fast and then pump the brakes. This then causes passengers to fly out of their seats. Sometimes they even hit their heads against the windows. I’m truly grateful to be able to ride the bus, but I believe there are some areas that could be improved.

Another thing that confuses me is the law about not riding bicycles on the sidewalk. I have noticed “certain” people riding their bikes on the sidewalks, but nothing is said to them. I also noticed someone who was, perhaps, homeless riding a bike on the sidewalk, and he was stopped by the police and given a ticket. So the question is, who can and cannot ride on the sidewalk?

I hope that this brief article opens your eyes to some of the things being overlooked in Charlotte. Please do not judge me.
